Okay, I have to admit, I have been accused of being overtly positive, a bit of a PollyAnna especially when it comes to the future. I just can’t help but think things will get better and it drives some people nuts when I say that. Call it my belief in humans, but with the God given abilities we have, I believe that we will ultimately find a way out of this mess.
I know, things right now are as bad as most all of us can remember, and the prognostications of doom and collapse hit us from just about every direction possible, every hour of every day. Right when we think that there may be a reason to have some hope, some unknown economic pundit provides an expanded dissertation as to why we would be real fools to believe that there is any reason to have hope, at least anytime soon. Man, I have to think it’s gotta change.
Gosh David, you have a job and a home that’s not upside down or in foreclosure. Your phone is not burning up its circuitry with calls from collection agencies demanding your last dime because you’re behind on your credit card payments or you haven’t paid medical bills that exceed most peoples’ lifetime earnings. You haven’t had to call your banker, lawyer or advertising company to tell them that as hard as you’ve tried, that dream you killed yourself for, that you refused to take paychecks from, that you sank every last dime of your retirement into, is over. You haven’t invested twenty years into a corporation that rewards your efforts with that faceless notice of a “force adjustment.” Yes, you eat well, have health insurance and relatively good health, and you have family and friends that love you. It’s pretty easy under those circumstances for you to behave like PollyAnna. So, I don’t want to hear about why you think things will get better....shut up and mind your own business!
Yea, I get it. There are a lot of good people out there who are hurting very badly, and by no fault of their own. They kind of got caught in the wrong place at the wrong time; circumstances conspired to turn their success into failure. Then there are the people in high places that through motivations like greed and power, set into play actions that have had a catastrophic financial domino affect, like the thief in the night who takes everything you’ve held dear and leaves you with that sick, empty feeling of being violated in some way. And, you’re downright scared about what’s going to happen. I don’t ignore the realities.
I think positively because I have to. I believe that there are opportunities out there that although they are extremely hard to find, and require a higher level of innovation and creativity to capture them, are nonetheless there for the taking. This is the time to stand up and strike, while everyone else is “licking their wounds” and get what you deserve. There are people and businesses who have money and they need to spend it!
I’m not so arrogant to believe that I am able to do this by myself. No, I read and seek out the advice of others that I trust. I rely on those with much more talent than me. I absorb as much as I can from people I believe have knowledge and character. And you know what I find are the most basic rules we humans live with? Most all of our fundamental efforts go into avoiding pain or moving towards pleasure. It is the basis for any purchase that is made: to ease some form of pain we are having or to acquire a pleasure that we just cannot live without. Now if you apply this rule to the product or service you have, in what innovative and creative way does what you offer accomplish one of these two fundamental rules? Does your product or service deliver on these human instincts in a way that is unique to anyone else? Does your product or service achieve this on a consistent basis? Can your product or service be provided profitably? Are you doing an adequate job of articulating the answers to these questions in such a way as to have a desired effect? If you need assistance with this last question, I know BIGSHOT has the ability to help.
Call me PollyAnna, but if you have the motivation to create and innovate, and are willing to seek the help of others, then there’s no reason to think negatively, and you too can say, “I’m tired of the bad news.”
