For those of you who frequent the Joomla! websites, you may have noticed a new button on the top menu called "Community". Today, we open community.joomla.org and dedicate it to become a place of inspiration, collaboration, and affirmation for members of the Joomla! community. How that unfolds in the future is yet unknown. What we do know is that our community is what innovates our future and powers our progress, and, as such, is our most valuable resource. The new Community site is a large collaborative effort on many fronts. Let's have a look at what this new Joomla! Community Portal has to offer: Core Team Blog: On this page, you can be kept up to date on what the Joomla! Core Team and their respective Working Groups is up to. Contributors: You can think of this is as a Blog for certain, key Working Group members. Magazine: This section of the website fills a much needed void in keeping the Community Members up to date on what is happening in the Community. Each month, you will see new articles written by community members on the topic of Joomla! Events: Want to know when the next Joomla! Event is? Want to know when there will be a Joomla! event in your area? This is the page you want to look at. All Joomla! approved Joomla! Days will be listed in this area of the site. Joomla! User Groups: Did you know that there are lots of Joomla! users just like you that like to get together regularly all over the world? Well, here is where you find one in your area. If you do not see one in your area, there is also a link that will get you hooked up with the right people to start your own. Feeds: On the homepage, several Joomla! News feeds are being pulled in. As you are probably aware the feeds pull the information in real time from other Joomla! websites. If you are interested in adding these (and other) Joomla! feeds to your website, Brad Baker has written a great blog post on Shopping at the FeedMall. At the end of the day, this is your site. I encourage you to visit it somewhat regularly to keep up to date on what is going on in the world of Joomla!. Kenneth Crowder has been involved in the Joomla! Community since the days of Mambo. He has volunteered many hours to help out the Open Source Project. He is considered an expert in all things related to Joomla!. He was a Technical Reviewer for Joomla! A Users Guide, as well as another book currently in the editing phase. Learn more about Ken.
