2008 Winter CMS Expo

20081209_1What do you get when you put 15-20 Joomla! Experts in the same room with the goal of teaching others all about why Joomla! is the great Content Management System on Earth?

A CMS Expo of course! More specifically, the 2008 Winter CMS Expo last week in Denver, Colorado.

Aside from the very dry atmosphere that had everyone's lips chapped by the end, it was a great event. People with all levels of expertise were on hand to learn and to teach others. Attendees from all over the world came in to participate in this event. Even though most were from the United States, some were from England, South Africa, Malaysia, and Netherlands. We even had a Skype video call with Beat (pronounced "Bee-awt") from Switzerland. The geography lesson aside, it truly was an event not to me missed.

Sessions were split into three levels of difficulty: Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced. I did not hear anyone state that they walked away not learning something. I even learned a few tricks that I never knew.

There was a famous list of presenters and keynote speakers, even though one presenter skipped out after breaking a rib falling on a chair. He will remain unnamed; although I'm sure someone will post it in the comments.

John and Linda Coonen did a great job planning the event along with the help of the other members of the Chicago Joomla! Users Group. I think everyone was impressed. Correction, I know everyone was impressed.

The next CMS Expo will be held in Chicago on May 6th thru 8th of 2009. Keep an eye on the CMS Expo website for more information. (http://cmsexpo.net)

If you have the means to make it, I encourage you to go. With that said, you may also want to look at the Joomla! Day Las Vegas event in April 2009. (http://lasvegas.joomladayusa.org)

On a lighter note, does anyone else think that Chris Rault looks and sounds like Heath Leger?

Kenneth Crowder has been involved in the Joomla! Community since the days of Mambo. He has volunteered many hours to help out the Open Source Project.
